All Africa Uganda: Expectant Women Dying as Drug Expires in Stores
A life saving drug is rotting in the national medical stores and district stores as clinics in charge fail to collect them. Magnesium sulfate, a drug that is meant to be free for pregnant women, is expiring in the government stores, the Assistant Commissioner for Reproductive Health Division, Ministry of Health, Dr Anthony Mbonye, said.

The government of Rwanda together with the United Nations Population Fund, (UNFPA) last week called for intensive measures against maternal mortality rate in Rwanda. This was during the launch of the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood in Rwanda that took place at Hotel Novotel, Kigali.

Martlett, University of Victoria, Canada Oxfam UVic addresses
The sound of a popping balloon recurred once a minute for half an hour on Sept. 22, startling many students around the Petch Fountain. The noise was part of Oxfam UVic’s Maternal Mortality Awareness event. Each popped balloon represented the one woman a minute who dies of preventable pregnancy-related disorders.
