Immpact has developed an innovative set of tools which measure levels and trends of maternal mortality as well as other domains including quality of obstetric care and costing of services.
Those that contribute to the measurement of levels/trends include Maternal Deaths from Informants (MADE-IN), Maternal Death Follow-On Review (MADE-FOR), RAPID, Sampling at Service Sites (SSS), and TRACE.

MEASURE Evaluation has produced numerous resources related to monitoring and evaluation of various health topics.
Their Compendium of Maternal and Newborn Health Tools provides a useful inventory of approaches for the assessment, monitoring and evaluation of maternal health. Included are a variety of qualitative and quantitative tools that can be used for both population- and facility-based enquiry.
